ABSTRACT: The role of vocational education in promoting sustainable construction practices is crucial for addressing environmental concerns and advancing the construction industry. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vocational programs in sustainable construction, identify key competencies required for green building practices, and assess student readiness for employment in sustainable construction. A survey design was utilized to collect data from students enrolled in construction-related vocational programs. The sample size included 250 students from technical institutions specializing in construction and environmental engineering. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with a background in construction education. The case study was conducted at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that vocational education significantly improved students' understanding of sustainable construction practices, enhanced their technical skills in green building techniques, and prepared them effectively for careers in sustainable construction. Students expressed high levels of satisfaction with the training, noting the practical applications and environmental impact of the skills acquired. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their sustainable construction curricula and foster partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure training programs remain relevant and impactful.
